Types of Mold
There are many types of mold, some of which are more harmful than others. Here are some of the most common types:
- Fungal Growth: Mold is an organism that grows on moist surfaces. It can be challenging to identify because it can grow in low light conditions and may not cause structural damage. Treatment typically involves cleaning the area and controlling the level of humidity.
- Yeast Growth: Mold is a fungus often found in moist areas but can also come from residual food products. Symptoms typically include a sweet smell, watery eyes, rash, and difficulty breathing.
- Aspergillus Niger: This mold is the type of mold you typically see growing from surfaces exposed to smoke or high humidity levels. Treatment usually involves removing the mold and sealing the area to prevent contamination.
- Stachybotrys chartarum: This mold is often found in indoor airspaces, such as offices and schools, where it causes health problems such as allergic reactions, asthma attacks, and other respiratory-related illnesses.
